Bologna, located in the heart of Emilia-Romagna, is a city that blends history, culture, and a genuine passion for good food. With roots that reach back to antiquity, Bologna is known as “The Learned, The Fat, The Red” for its three main characteristics: the presence of the oldest university in the Western world, its rich culinary tradition, and the color of its buildings.
The historic center of Bologna is a gem of medieval architecture, with its towers, including the famous Asinelli Tower and Garisenda Tower, dominating the urban landscape. Bologna’s porticoes, which are part of the UNESCO World Heritage, stretch for about 40 kilometers, offering a unique experience: they allow you to explore the city sheltered from the weather, while strolling among historic buildings, elegant boutiques, cozy cafes, and artisan shops, discovering at every step the authentic and timeless charm of Bologna.
The city is also a vibrant cultural center, with numerous museums, art galleries, theaters, and cinemas. The University of Bologna, founded in 1088, continues to attract students from around the world, giving the city a young and dynamic atmosphere. Additionally, every year Bologna hosts significant cultural events, such as the International Film Festival, book fairs, and contemporary art exhibitions. Moreover, Bologna has been recognized by UNESCO as a Creative City of Music, a prestigious acknowledgment of its long musical tradition.
Finally, Bologna is a true paradise for food lovers. The city is known for many gastronomic specialties, including tagliatelle, tortellini, mortadella, the famous ragù alla bolognese, and much more. Bolognese cuisine is an authentic reflection of the region’s rural tradition, enhanced by the use of high-quality local ingredients.
Join me on a journey through the most evocative places in the city, choosing my Bologna guided tours, and you will discover its most authentic side! You will learn the history of the magnificent Fountain of Neptune, why the imposing Basilica of San Petronio is the most beloved by Bolognese people, how the oldest university in the West was born, and much more. We will take a walk through the alleys of the famous “Mercato di Mezzo,” lined with taverns and shops that preserve the tradition of Bolognese cuisine. We will pass by the two towers—the Asinelli Tower and the Garisenda Tower—and uncover their history, on a walk that will lead us to the window on Via Piella, offering a glimpse into another chapter of Bologna’s history.

5 stars are not enough to measure Luana. She deserves more. She is very knowledgeable and articulate and her explanations are easily understood. Luana has a warm and engaging personality – you’d love to have her as a friend. We wish we could have had more time with her but we feel we experienced a great deal of this magical city. We highly, highly recommend Luana for your next tour.

Fabulous tour of Bologna. Our guide Luana made our day unforgettable. Meeting Luana was exceptionally easy. Her knowledge passion and love of the region is infectious. We covered all the major sites, Piazza Maggiore, Basilica San Petronio, Bologna University including the anatomy museum and library, Due Torri, Santo Stefano and the wonderful quadrilatero where the tour ended with delicious tastes of Bologna. Prosciutto, Mortadella and local salami washed down with Sangiovese. Absolutely perfect. A must.
