Bologna “the Red, the Learned and the Fat”

The University of Bologna, founded in 1088, is the oldest in Europe, contributing to the city’s distinctive atmosphere. The long porticoes, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, hold evocative sights and stories to be heard.
The city amazes with its buildings, such as the two towers from medieval times; with its ferment, with the number of intellectuals and artists who have worked in the city and drawn inspiration from it. The museums, churches, alleys, markets, palaces, libraries and masterpieces it preserves, display its long history.

Join me on a journey through Bologna, and you will discover its most authentic side! You will learn about the history of the magnificent Neptune Fountain, why the city is known as “the learned, the fat, the red one”; why the imposing Basilica of St Petronio is the most beloved by the Bolognesi, and much more. We will take a walk through the alleys of the famous “mercato di mezzo”, overlooked by taverns and food shops. We will pass by the two towers and discover their early use, walking to the window of Via Piella, a glimpse into another chapter of the city’s history.

5 stars are not enough to measure Luana. She deserves more. She is very knowledgeable and articulate and her explanations are easily understood. Luana has a warm and engaging personality – you’d love to have her as a friend. We wish we could have had more time with her but we feel we experienced a great deal of this magical city. We highly, highly recommend Luana for your next tour.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Jim Coumanidis from U.K.
Fabulous tour of Bologna. Our guide Luana made our day unforgettable. Meeting Luana was exceptionally easy. Her knowledge passion and love of the region is infectious. We covered all the major sites, Piazza Maggiore, Basilica San Petronio, Bologna University including the anatomy museum and library, Due Torri, Santo Stefano and the wonderful quadrilatero where the tour ended with delicious tastes of Bologna. Prosciutto, Mortadella and local salami washed down with Sangiovese. Absolutely perfect. A must.
