Cesenatico boasts a rich and fascinating history. Its origins date back to the Roman era. Over the centuries, Cesenatico has been home to various prominent figures, including Leonardo da Vinci, who spent time in the area creating drawings of the Canal Harbour, now dedicated to him; Giuseppe Garibaldi, who arrived in the city on the first day of August in 1849 on his way to Venice. Cesenatico is also the birthplace of Marino Moretti, an important poet, writer, and playwright of the twentieth century.
The port of Cesenatico remains an icon of the city and hosts several historic vessels, part of the Maritime Museum, where the popular and enchanting Nativity Scene is set up during the Christmas time.
Today, the town is known for its picturesque historic center, maritime traditions, and tangible evidence of its past, offering a unique combination of history, maritime culture, and hospitality.
