A guided tour around Ravenna following the footsteps of Dante.
Dante Alighieri, after his exile from Florence in 1302 and long wanderings, accepted the invitation of Guido Novello da Polenta, lord of Ravenna. He arrived in the city and remained there until his death, which occurred in September 1321. The small temple that preserves his remains is located in the heart of the city.
Dante concluded his Comedia in Ravenna, finding here great inspiration for the third cantica, the Paradise. He was undoubtedly moved by the magnificence of the early Christian mosaics, the “thick and living” pine forest that surrounds the city and the historical events. As we visit the places, I will tell you the stories, which the atmospheres and the extraordinary work of the “sommo poeta” still evoke.
Piazza San Francesco, in front of the church of St Francesco.
Upon request, I can also meet you at another location in the city center.
