In 1996 as many as eight of the Ravenna early Christian and Byzantine monuments were inscribed on the World Heritage list. They were all built between the fifth and sixth centuries, a period in which the city became capital three times: in 402 of the Western Roman Empire; in the second half of the fifth century of kingdom of the Goths; and then of Byzantine dominion in Italy. This had been the golden age of the city, during which an extraordinary number of outstanding buildings and mosaics were constructed.
On this tour I will take you through the wonder of some of the city’s most striking UNESCO sites. Their architecture and the sumptuousness of the mosaics have always enchanted hundreds of travelers: among them many famous people, such as Charlemagne, who had his palatine chapel built in Aachen on the model of the Basilica of San Vitale; Gustav Klimt, influenced by the glow of Ravenna’s mosaics; and Cole Porter, who was inspired by the starry night of the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia for his Night and Day.

Luana is a very good guide and lovely person. My mother has a sore leg and she did everything to help her get into the sites and up the stairs. Her stories were beautiful, she really knows everything about everything and me and my mother loved the experience! Highly recommended!!!
